Ice Skating
Crisp Wide Open Skies
Ice Fishing
Skate under wide open skies – our freezing winters are perfect for outdoor skating. Often one or more of our alpine lakes will freeze clear and the local rush out to enjoy the sensation of skating over water.
This adventure does come with a strong suggestion to keep an eye on the ice, making sure it's thick enough to support your weight and the weight of your party, including dog. In sub-zero waters, hypothermia sets in in seconds.
Safety Tips
It is vital for your safety, along with that of others in your group, for you to know how thick the ice is before skating, walking, or snowmobiling on a frozen lake. Here is a link that will help you that will help you from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
As we've stressed in other places on this site, let someone at home know where you are going and what time you plan on being home. Don't forget to call when you are safely off the ice!
Again, warm clothing is a must for this activity. Have a warm base layer with additional layers that you can take on and off as the temperature shifts with the day.
